Learning objectives
LEARNING OUTCOMES The course aims to improve the knowledge of the History of the Italian language, also related to literary history. It will be proposed the reading and analysis of chosen texts of authors who, through their literary works, contributed to the formation and evolution of the Italian language. The expected learning outcomes are:
KNOWLEDGES:
- evolution of literary Italian language;
- different methods of analysis of the literary text.
SKILLS:
- to recognize the traits of continuity and discontinuity in the language of Italian literature from its origins to its contemporaneity;
- to evaluate the linguistic and stylistic aspects in texts by different authors in a diachronic perspective;
- to formulate assessments and judgments, motivating them with the appropriate arguments.
Prerequisites and basic notions
Having passed the History of the Italian language exam (i).
Program
The course offers the linguistic analysis of a selection of exemplary literary texts (in prose and verse) by authors who have contributed to the formation and stabilization of literary Italian. From the analysis of the texts, both the linguistic specificities of the individual authors and the more general directions of evolution of the literary language from its origins to the twentieth century will be derived.

Didactic methods
Frontal lesson in the presence. On a voluntary basis, simple exercises for reading the literary text will be proposed. Students in isolation for Covid-19 are invited to agree with the teacher how to recover the lessons in which they were temporarily unable to attend.
Learning assessment procedures
The exam, which will be held in oral form, aims to ascertain knowledge relating to the topics covered during the course. In particular, the student must:
- be able to answer general questions on the history of the Italian literary language;
- be able to propose a linguistic analysis of one of the poetic texts analyzed in class.
Non attending students are supposed to write a textual analisys on a literary text to be agreed with the professor.
Evaluation criteria
Each student will be asked at least two of his two questions among the texts analyzed: the mark (out of thirty) will be attributed taking into account the knowledge acquired, the ability to range in relevant ways in other disciplines, the ability to establish links between the different moments of the history of the Italian language.
