Learning objectives
The course aims to consolidate the knowledge of aspects of the tradition of linguistic research in the Hispanic context. At the end of the course students: – should know the basics of theoretical models to account for linguistic phenomena related to Spanish in a synchronic or diachronic perspective; – will apply these models to written and oral texts in Spanish, proving to be able to organize the aspects studied in a systematic manner.
Prerequisites and basic notions
Sufficient language proficiency to understand lessons given in Spanish.
Program
The course aims to address the fundamental theoretical and epistemological aspects of the phraseological discipline, starting from its terminology, its basic concepts and the classification of its units of description. Examples of phraseological component analysis in Spanish will be presented from different models, disciplines and approaches.
Students will know
• apply the knowledge required to identify phraseological units, with respect to other linguistic components (words, syntagmas, etc.)
• evaluate the historical conformation of the phraseological discipline and analyze its relationship with the rest of the current linguistic disciplines
• apply tools for the contrastive analysis of phraseology
• formulate hypotheses and research questions on synchronic and diachronic aspects related to phraseology
• use linguistic corpus and databases to analyze phraseological phenomena
• search for bibliographic sources and resources for the study of phraseology
• analyze documents that will allow to understand and apply theoretical concepts.

Didactic methods
Frontal lessons on the topics of the program.
For non-attending students, recommended reading will be provided.
Teaching support methods: The supplementary and support teaching materials will be uploaded to the Moodle platform of the course, as well as the indication of the recommended readings for non-attending students.
Learning assessment procedures
The exam consists of a written test on theoretical and practical issues relating to the course program, the compulsory bibliography and the teaching material provided. The written test, lasting 90 minutes, consists of multiple-choice, short answer and open-answer questions. Some questions will require metalinguistic reflection and the ability to identify phenomena dealt with during the course and propose examples.
Evaluation criteria
The examination is designed to ascertain the breadth and depth of knowledge gained on the syllabus, language property, terminological precision and the ability to systemically link the knowledge acquired during lectures and from the study of the bibliography.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The grade will be expressed out of thirty.
