Graduation

If the student has passed all the required exams, the Degree program ends with graduation, consisting of the drafting and discussion of:

  1. a written dissertation (thesis) on a topic related to the fields of studies of the Degree program, previously agreed upon with a member of the faculty of the Degree course; the tutoring activities organised to support the drafting of the thesis will help the student in the elaboration of the dissertation (three-year general program);
  2. an in-depth written report concerning the internship completed by the student and the knowledge/skills acquired during the internship, previously agreed upon with the member of the faculty of the Degree course who served as university tutor for the same internship (three-year professionally oriented program);
  3. a research, also empirical, previously agreed upon with a member of the faculty of the Degree course and aimed at advancing the student’s skills, with a view to favouring his/her insertion in the labour market, on sources, administrative documentation, judicial measures or other materials relating to a subject matter included in the studies completed or inherent to the professional profiles pursued (three-year general and/or professionally oriented program).

At least two months before the graduation session, the member of the faculty acting as supervisor agrees with the student on the provisional title of the dissertation. The student must submit to the administrative office of the Degree course, within the aforementioned deadline, a dedicated form containing the identified provisional title, signed by the supervisor. The type of final dissertation is chosen by the supervisor among the abovementioned three types, following consultation with the student.

The Chair of the Teaching Board of Law Degree Courses shall appoint, at least two weeks before the graduation session begins:

  • a committee composed of at least five members of the faculty and presided over by the Chair of the Teaching Board of Law Degree Courses; in his or her absence, by the Director of the Department of Law or the highest ranking tenured professor.

The final examination consists of the discussion of the dissertation elaborated in one of the abovementioned types (a), (b) (c). Appropriate guidelines are provided on the course webpage.
The final grade is proposed by the Committee according to a scale from 66 to 110.

A maximum of 10 points are available for the Committee’s evaluation, which is added to the score resulting from the weighted average of the grades of the exams taken by the student in his or her career, related to 110 and rounded up (rounding to the upper point is applied starting from the 0.50 excess over the lower point: e.g.: 100.50=100; 100.51=101).
The 10 available points are awarded as follows:

  1. 0 to 8 points for the evaluation of the dissertation and discussion thereof;
  2. 1 point for each of the following bonuses, up to a maximum of 2 additional points, to be added to the score earned under 1), even if it is less than 8:
    1. the student has ended the career in line with the Course schedule (for this purpose, any period spent abroad under the Erasmus program or other equivalent exchange programs shall not be taken into account in calculating the duration of the Course schedule if the student has earned the credits required to maintain the assigned mobility grant or has carried out research for the dissertation under the aforementioned programs);
    2. the student has drafted and discussed the dissertation in one of the following foreign languages: French, English, Spanish, German;
    3. the student has earned at least 3 grades summa cum laude in basic and characterising activities;
    4. the supervisor certifies that the final dissertation was drafted in connection, by topic or method or data used, with an internship included in the student’s career for at least 6 credits;
    5. the supervisor certifies that the final dissertation is consistent with one of the characterising learning areas of the Course;
    6. the student has participated in the Erasmus program, earning the credits required to maintain the awarded mobility grant;
    7. the supervisor certifies that the final dissertation was drafted in connection, by topic or method or data used, with a dedicated workshop or course on soft skills included in the student’s career.

The student can earn a maximum of 2 additional points, regardless of whether he/she was entitled to multiple bonuses. The student who obtains the highest score (110 out of 110) may, by unanimous consent of the members of the Committee, be awarded a final evaluation summa cum laude.
At the link Sessioni di laurea - Giurisprudenza, the administrative requirements and forms are available.
At the link Progetto tesi, information on tutoring activities in support of the drafting of the dissertation is available.

Internships

Internships are aimed at enabling students to gain direct knowledge of the world of work and to acquire specific professional skills.

Internships are carried out under the responsibility of an individual lecturer, and can be carried out in professional firms, public administration bodies and companies recognised by the University of Verona.

Any CFU credits gained by doing internships will be recognised and recorded by the University in accordance with the relevant University regulations in force (Regolamento d’Ateneo per il riconoscimento dei crediti maturati negli stage universitari).

For further information on internships, please go to: https://www.univr.it/it/i-nostri-servizi/stage-e-tirocini.

Language skills

In the Study Plan there is the following indication:
“Knowledge of a foreign language (English, French, German, Spanish) - CLA Certification”.
The expected credits (CFU) are 3 in type “E” activities.

The 3 credits can be acquired in the following ways:
i. dedicated teachings of the Degree Course: passing the examination of one of the foreign language teachings organised in the Degree Course + in-person registration of the credits;
ii. certification at the University Language Centre (CLA – Centro Linguistico di Ateneo): minimum required level B1 (complete examination).
Procedure:
Student – enrollment at the University Language Center (CLA) for taking the tests + passing the tests + enrolment in a special list for credit registration.
University – credit registration (without attendance).
iii. recognition of an external language certification as equivalent (procedure: https://cla.univr.it/it/servizi/riconoscimento-delle-certificazioni-linguistiche-esterne).

Further details can be found at the link Competenze linguistiche - Giurisprudenza.

Student mentoring

Tutoring services are managed by the Department of Law and provide the following types of activities:

  • welcome and orientation (orientation tutoring)
  • support to inclusion and accessibility (specialized tutoring)
  • social media management (orientation tutoring)
  • support to Panopto for Workers project (facilitator tutoring)
  • support to teaching and to thesis drafting (educational tutoring).

The following categories of mentors are provided:

A) mentor for orientation –at the request of the students entrusted to him/her, the mentor contributes to the structuring of their study plan, as well as to help familiarise with the university environment and with the specific ways of organizing time and methods for studying;

B) mentor for students whose career is not in line with the Course schedule – this mentoring facilitates the completion of the study plan and graduation; responsibility for this is entrusted to the Quality Assurance body of the Degree Course, which takes the necessary organisational measures.

Students with work obligations

To facilitate the organisation of the study, the attendance to classes, and learning by students who have work obligations, the degree course introduces a number of options in accordance with its professionalising objectives.
The available options are the following

  • PANOPTO FOR WORKERS (P4W): service aimed at facilitating and safeguarding teaching continuity for students who have work obligations and cannot attend classes due to incompatibility with the work schedule. This modulation is realised through providing access to dedicated teaching materials, especially video recordings of lectures.
    For information on the procedure to request access to the service, please refer to the webpage Panopto for workers.
    The service is also offered to students during the period of internship whose arrangements prevent them from attending classes. In this case, the request for access to the service must be submitted by the academic tutor assigned for the internship.
    A facilitator tutoring is also available to support the delivery of this service (for further information, please refer to the webpage Tutorato per studentesse e studenti – Giurisprudenza.
  • PROJECT WORK: possibility of replacing the internship with the drafting of a project work, through which the operational and organizational issues of a given work or training context are explored in depth, in accordance with the learning-by-doing approach.
    For information on the procedure, which requires the appointment of a member of the faculty acting as supervisor and the submission of the request to the Teaching Board for approval, please refer to the webpage Project work.
    Dedicated guidelines are available to assist supervisors and students in the preparation of the project, identifying different types of project work (research project; improvement project; development project; compilation project) and providing operational guidance for the drafting of the final report. It is worth specifying that the topic of the final report of the project work should NOT coincide with the topic chosen for the dissertation.
  • RECOGNITION OF YEARS WORKED: possibility of requesting the recognition (including a partial recognition) of internship credits (TAF F) against a specified number of years worked, in accordance with the procedure available at this link.
