Learning objectives
GENERAL AND CLINICAL PEDIATRICS
A "focus" on "general pediatrics" is the most appropriate training for a medical student, whatever their future career choice may be. Only a minority of students will choose to become pediatricians, while most will choose "general" medicine. Therefore, the development of a generalist approach in teaching pediatrics is essential in implementing a pediatric curriculum for the medical and surgical student.
CHILD NEUROPSYCHIATRY MODULE
Within the integrated course of Pediatrics, Child Neuropsychiatry represents an autonomous discipline, the fundamentals of which must be taught to medical students. The main objective of the course is to illustrate to students the principles of neuropsychic development of the child, from birth through childhood to adolescence, and to highlight the main symptoms and manifestations that characterize abnormal developmental trajectories and neuropsychiatric diseases with onset in the first two decades of life. The main focus of the course is to describe the most significant clinical signs of neurological and neurodevelopmental diseases, characterizing, when possible, their neurophysiological principles; the main clinical and instrumental diagnostic assessment tools will also be described.
The main chapters of developmental psychiatry will also be explained. Finally, the current status of the main treatments of various conditions will be mentioned. Students will be instructed in the evaluation of clinical manifestations to correlate the onset of different symptoms, not only with their modality, but also with the age of the subject. Attention will be paid to the process of communicating diagnoses to families, and the importance of "accompanying" them during the often chronic course of childhood neuropsychiatric illnesses. Further objective is to make students aware of the role of environmental influences (family, socioeconomic status, schooling, social relationships, etc.) in defining the characteristics of the child's "developmental trajectories." It will then be illustrated how negative influences of such factors can be reflected in clinical manifestations (often misinterpreted as symptoms of illness), atypical behaviors, difficulties in skill acquisition, on the emotional habitus of the child and/or adolescent, and why they cannot be ascribed to symptoms/manifestations of illness. The final aim of the course is to provide students with the elements to identify the specifics of a child neuropsychiatric picture as such, the diagnosis of which will be confirmed by specialist consultation.
INFANT AND PEDIATRIC SURGERY MODULE
The course is aimed at leading students to be able to: know the main congenital surgical malformations, learn the diagnostic and therapeutic paths focusing on modern surgical techniques.
The training includes teaching modern minimally invasive technologies (robotic surgery, laparoscopic surgery, thoracoscopic surgery,surgical endoscopy and pediatric percutaneous surgery).
The use of artificial intelligence, metaverse and experimental surgery (tissue preservation and organoid formations) in the pediatric setting. Principles of modern simulation using systems associated with motor learning to improve surgical performance will be taught
Examination Methods
The examination consists of an oral test aimed at ascertaining knowledge of the course content.
Evaluation criteria
Verification of what was learned during the professionalizing activity. Verification of the knowledge of the main chapters covered in the lectures and all the main notions given in the texts and supplements given in the "recommended texts" paragraph . Verification of the knowledge learned during the internship period and the notions learned from the seminars held weekly by various lecturers. The Student will take the exam individually and not in pairs The Student will always be examined by at least two Commissioners The grade is not an arithmetic average of the individual lecturer's judgments but weighted by them An opportunity will be given to the student, if the examination has revealed inadequate preparation to obtain a high score, to withdraw. It is possible to contact the Course Coordinator to report problems or discrepancies from the above. Individual oral for Pediatric Surgery. CHILD SURGERY The oral test ascertains the level of knowledge of theoretical content, language property in describing surgical diseases and their diagnostic therapeutic process, demonstrate logical/deductive skills and ability to describe the application of new technologies flanked by artificial intelligence, metaverse and experimental surgery. The final grade is given by a passing grade for scores equal to or greater than 18/30 in each module.

Ore e Crediti Formativi Universitari (CFU)
Ai fini del raggiungimento degli obiettivi formativi, il CdS prevede 360 CFU complessivi. Ad ogni CFU corrispondono 25 ore di lavoro dello studente e della studentessa che, a seconda della tipologia didattica, sono suddivise in:
- Lezioni fontali: di norma 12 ore/CFU di lezione e 13 ore di studio individuale;
- Attività didattica tutoriale (Problem Based Learning, Problem Solving, Decision Making): di norma 15 ore/CFU di lavoro di gruppo e 10 ore di studio individuale;
- Attività didattiche elettive (ADE): di norma 22 ore/CFU di attività e 3 ore di studio individuale;
- Attività pratiche e svolgimento tesi: 25 ore/CFU;
- Tirocinio pratico-valutativo per l’abilitazione all’esercizio della professione di Medico Chirurgo: 25 ore/CFU per tirocini in Area Medica e Area Chirurgica; 20 ore/CFU per tirocinio in Area Medicina Generale.
