Learning outcomes

In the advanced class of Comparative Literature (36 hours, 6 CFU) students will learn to write an essay from both a narratological and stylistical point of view. The essay will be based upon the analysis of a short narrative thematically similar to the ones studied in the introductive class, "Futuri futuribili". The advanced class provides the opportunity – unfortunately not very common – to write a scientific essay and is therefore recommended to all the students who, after attending the introductive class, plan to begin working on their final thesis.

Program

COURSE TITLE: FUTURI FUTURIBILI - FUTURISTIC FUTURES

In the first part of the 36 hours, students will acquire some basic notions of narratology (see Grosser) and will learn which are the best ways to write a good essay (Tani lecture notes).

In the second part of the class, student will put into practice what they have learned: they will write an essay in which they analyze some short stories (selected from the collection edited by Pizzo and Catani). Then, the essays will be discussed in class.

Gian Filippo Pizzo e Vittorio Catani (eds), Il prezzo del futuro (La Ponga, 2015). The short stories that the students will analyze in their essays will be chosen from this collection (and maybe from other ones which will be shortly communicated).

The stylistics lessons will be based upon professor Stefano Tani's lecture notes.
