Academic calendar

The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Public holidays and University closures are also indicated. The academic year normally begins on 1 October each year and ends on 30 September of the following year.

Learning outcomes

To provide a theoretical and practical introduction to the Internet and to Web search tools, with a focus on philosophy-related resources.

Program

- Internet basics, glossary and definitions
- Web search tools – Search engines, directories, electronic encyclopedias, digital text collections, OPACs, newsgroups, social media and UGC (User-Generated Content)
- Online search techniques – Planning and carrying out a web search, evaluating and organising results
- Philosophy resources on the Web
- Exercise – Search the Internet for information on a philosophy-related topic and present results in a written document; accompany it with related files and digital resources, arranged into folders.

Notes and worksheets will be distributed in class. All course materials will be made available on this Web site prior to exam date.

Oral examination, presentation of the exercise results
