Learning outcomes

Grasping relevant Concepts by Modern Moral Philosophy. At the end of the course the student will have to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and reflection on these aspects.

Program

Contents:

Commemorating the 300th anniversary of Leibniz's death: harmony, wisdom and true piety in the “Theodicy”.

The program aims at analyzing Leibniz’s “Essays of Theodicy” referring to such issues as the Goodness of God, the freedom of man, the origin of evil and also to further subjects as the relationship between will and understanding, harmony and wisdom, reason and true piety, freedom and free will, the difference between absolute necessity, moral necessity and physical necessity, the discussion on P. Bayle’s thought, the meaning of pre-established harmony and so on.
