Learning outcomes

knowledge of the outlines of the social and cultural history of the Italian Renaissance, with awareness of the related critical debates; focus on topics of the cultural history of the Italian and European Renaissance, with an initiation to a direct reading of sources.

Program

Critical reading of Burckhardt's classic nineteenth-century foundation of the modern notion of Renaissance. Special focus on the history of the book and of reading in sixteenth-century Itaky.

Examination Methods

Written questionnaire on the course bibliography, followed by oral interview on its results.
