Learning objectives

The course aims to develop and consolidate their understanding of the pragmatic and multimodal aspects of the promotional text in English, with special focus on the varieties of tourism and commerce. At the end of the course the students should be able to demonstrate a competent use of the tools for analysis of the descriptive and persuasive texts in English. A C1 competence is required for the exam.

Prerequisites and basic notions

Prerequisites: English Language 2, complete C1 level of English Language proficiency (or certificate of equivalence issued by CLA, the Language Center of the University), English Literature 2 (or equivalent exam)

Didactic methods

Classroom lectures with slides. Activities and exercises will be proposed during lectures and posted on Moodle. Students are invited to complete the activities and discuss them in the classroom. Activities will not be available after the end of the course (May 2023). The slides of the lectures posted on Moodle will be available until the end of January 2024.
The language of the course is English.
Methods of teaching support:
Teaching materials available on Moodle; bibliography available on this website. Students are also encouraged to contact the professor by e-mail and during office hours (also via zoom, Meeting ID: 899 7426 1272)

Learning assessment procedures

The exam is a written test in English on the topics of the lessons and activities related to the course. It consists of closed-ended and semi-closed questions.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

The evaluation of the final exam is based on the score obtained. Active participation in the activities proposed during the course is essential for an adequate preparation for the final exam.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The final grade is the arithmetic average between the outcome of the exam (out of thirty) and the English language C1 level certification (or its equivalent) obtained at the CLA (out of thirty according to the current table)

Internships and apprenticeships - Foreign Languages and Literatures

Internships and apprenticeships 

A mandatory internship period (6 CFUs) within business organizations is included in the study plan for the Bachelor’s degree in Languages and Cultures for Tourism and International Commerce (L12). 

The internship is designed to provide students with practical experience in areas relevant to their future professional careers and to help them acquire specific professional skills. 

Internship activities are conducted under the direct supervision of an individual lecturer and take place at professional firms, public administration offices, and companies accredited by the University of Verona. 

Credits earned through internship activities will be awarded in accordance with the detailed provisions of the current “Regolamento d’Ateneo per il riconoscimento dei crediti maturati negli stage universitari” (University Regulations for the Recognition of Credits Accrued in University Internships).
