Learning objectives

The course aims to introduce students to the advanced study of music in its relationship with literature, culture and society through the analysis of particularly relevant musical phenomena and works. On successful completion of the module, which is centered around one or more case studies, students will be able to understand the main features of a few crucial moments in the history of opera, to analyze and interpret the role and significance of music as a means of communication and interaction between human beings, both in the past and today.
