Learning outcomes

The teaching aims to help students to know and understand the different aspects that characterize the migratory phenomenon in Italy and in the world.
Know the health problems of migrants, specifically sexual and reproductive health.
Develop intra-personal, inter-cultural skills, knowledge, understanding skills and skills that allow future health professionals to provide care consistent with the different needs of the patient,avoiding standardizations.
Analyze and stimulate reflection on our current ways of welcoming the immigrant population and the problems related to access to care.
Know the figure of the cultural mediator and its importance.
Analyze, study and be able to identify the problem of Female Genital Mutilation, in its various psycho-social aspects, with its load of psychological traumas.
Make the concepts of ethnonurcing, cultural relativism and evaluation of the operator's cultural competence its own.
Understand the importance of acquiring cross-cultural skills and of developing models of trancultural midwifery and nursing.

- international and intercontinental migration: numbers, age, women, origin, geographic location, motivations, living conditions, difficulties and needs
-unaccompanied foreign minors, trafficking in human beings
-health problems of migrants: risk factors for health (direct and indirect determinants), pathologies of migration, non-communicable and infectious diseases, migratory trauma and psychological / psychiatric problems
-methods of access to health services, barriers to access to health care (legal, cultural, linguistic, practical problems of usability and discrimination and distrust), equity in health and in health care
-sexual and reproductive health: migratory stress and its influence on women's health, social marginality and negative sites (breast cancer, screening, sexually transmitted diseases, voluntary termination of pregnancy and family planning, role of midwife)
-development of professional skills: intrapersonal skills (stereotypes, stigmatizations, discrimination, person-centered approach, communication and language, verbal and non-verbal, reflective listening, emotions, emotional intelligence and automatic thoughts) and intercultural skills (multiculturality, interculturality, cultural competence and intercultural, sensitivity to diversity and differences)
-female genital mutilation (numbers, laws, types of mutilation, health risks, short and long term damage, obstetric and neonatal problems, obstetric management, postpartum, prevention)
-transcultural assistance models: cultural competence, transcultural nursing, Operator's cultural competence evaluation models, the process of acquiring cultural skills, the sunrise model, the concepts of etnonursing, the holographic model of the complexity of Prunell and Paulanka, functional models of Gordon, the integration of the two models for adequate cross-cultural assistance planning
