MED/46 - BIOTECHNOLOGY AND METHODS IN LABORATORY MEDICINE

Learning outcomes

The Professional Laboratory is a prerequisite to professional training and is designed to provide all students the minimum skills and equal for all locations are essential to deal with it. Since, moreover, the possibility to the student to experiment with quiet activities before being inserted in the employment context.They are carried out in small groups throughout the academic year (I - II semester), under the guidance of tutors.

Program

The 3 year laboratory aims to deep some topics covered in the lectures, it aims to analyze in particular the diagnostic process in a Pathological Anatomy Laboratory, from the acceptance of the material to the preparation of the stained slide with routine staining ( E&E) for histology and Papanicolau for vaginal and extra vaginal cytology.
It is also proposed to deep some techniques such as immunohistochemistry and molecular biology with the focus on the introduction of immunotherapy among oncological treatments for patients who express genetic mutations detectable with methods widespread in the laboratories of Pathological Anatomy.
It is also planned to deep the reading of the pap test with the vision of some preparations prepared with conventional smear and with a thin layer method (Thin Prep) and colored according to the Papanicolau coloring.
