Learning outcomes

The course aims to make students understand the basic stages of the birth of modern biotechnologies and the current applications of recombinant biotechnology in biomedical and pharmaceutical fields. We will discuss issues of a scientific and biological nature. The course also aims to provide an updated view of recombinant techniques including techniques for reproductive and therapeutic cloning, technic for the reproduction of recombinant drugs

Lesson 1

A Short History of DNA Technology and the Human Genome Project

Lesson 2

Major classes of restriction endonucleases, molecular cloning using a plasmid vector, different cloning vector

Lesson 3

The laboratory animal species most closely related to humans for which the knockout technique can easily be applied, Knockout mouse.

Lesson 4

Bioinformatic tools: BLAST and Primer 3

Lesson 5

Clinical applications of recombinant drugs. Human recombinant TSH. production technique, commercial products, pharmacokinetic properties, approval for clinical use. Use in the diagnosis and follow-up of differentiated thyroid carcinoma
