Learning outcomes

The main educational goal of this course is the acquisition by students of advanced skills in Spanish Literature from the origins to the 17th century. As a result students will acquire: - knowledge and comprehension skills: in-depth knowledge of the Spanish Literature of the period planned in terms of historical context, texts, genres, movements and authors, with particular regard to the themes of inter-cultural exchanges and the expressive differentiation of Literary phenomena. - Applied knowledge and comprehension skills: students will acquire the necessary methodologies to work on literary texts in both historical and comparative perspective, as well as the ability to understand complex texts and implicit meanings. Students must be able to express themselves in Spanish fluently and spontaneously, arguing clearly, structured and detailed on complex topics.

Program

Literary culture of the Siglo de Oro
The course is an introduction to the Spanish culture and literature of the Renaissance and Baroque.
1 Pre-Renaissance: Catholic Kings, Castilian lyric, Romancero, the novel, Celestina.
2 Renaissance: Charles V, erasmism, Philip II and the Counter-Reformation, Garcilaso de la Vega, Juan de la Cruz, the novel, the picaresque and Lazarillo de Tormes.
3 Baroque: theater, Lope de Vega, Tirso de Molina, Calderon de la Barca; poetry: Góngora and Quevedo.
4 Reading and commentary on Miguel de Cervantes' Don Quijote
The exam is subject to passing the Spanish language 1 and Spanish literature 1 (preparatory). The teaching is taught entirely in Spanish and the classics will read and comment partially in class.

Examination Methods

During the course, students will have access to a written test that will contribute to the final evaluation. The final exam consists of an oral test in Spanish which includes a verification of the level of comprehension of the texts (reading, translation and comment).
The exam will be intended to verify: the depth of the knowledge acquired / the ability to understand the literary texts / the ability to connect to the historical-cultural context / the ability to express and argue in Spanish

NON-ATTENDING students must study Anthony Close, Guía esencial del Quijote, Madrid, Visor, 2019 in addition to the history of literature manual.
For students who do not take or do not pass the partial test, the final oral exam on the entire program is scheduled. Please remember that 1 training credit is equivalent to 25 hours of study; for this reason, in a 9 CFU course, in addition to attending the lessons (54 hours), students are expected to spend at least 150 hours studying. The teacher is available during the reception for clarifications on the course contents.
