Learning objectives
This course provides guidance to perform applied econometric analysis, offering the training necessary to analyze economic data, to interpret them and to measure the relationships suggested by economic theories in different fields such as Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, and Finance . During the course the basic elements of econometric analysis will be reviewed but the emphasis will be placed on applications and model building. Students will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for the analysis of economic data, as well as the interpretation and discussion of the results. Group work will complement individual study for this purpose.
At the end of the course the student will be to independently conduct reliable empirical analysis, from the data collection step, to the descriptive analysis and up to the identification of the main relationships between the variables of interest.

Didactic methods
The course is structured in lectures and exercises in the computer lab. Each topic will be treated first from a theoretical point of view and then from an empirical point of view. Applications will be based on real data. The use of the R software will be proposed.
Learning assessment procedures
The exam is divided into two tests: a project and a written test aimed to assess the knowledge of the econometric techniques illustrated during the lectures and the ability to apply these tools to concrete cases through the use of the R software.

The evaluation criteria will be based on the written test, and a project

A written test is expected consisting of a multiple choice section and a practical section, as well as a project of a concrete case. In case of not taking the course, the exam will be based on different problem sets to be solved in R as well as a written test
