Learning objectives

The course addresses and analyses with a preventive perspective the main health and social issues related to the phenomena of inequality and disadvantaged groups, globalization and migration, with particular reference to the impact on mental and physical health, substance addiction and behavioural addictions.
It also provides the theoretical and practical tools which are essential to understanding and analysing the activities to promote healthy and active ageing through prevention of behavioural risk factors and modification of lifestyles.
- Describe strategies and tools to perform individual and community prevention in a community medicine setting.
- Analyse issues related to the consequences of inequality in health protection and welfare systems.
- Analyse morbidity and mortality in disadvantaged groups.
- Recognise determinants and factors that increase domestic abuse, gender-based violence and identify interventions to early catch and act against violence.
- Describe the socio- sanitary impact and analyse prevention strategies for drug abuse (smoking, alcohol, drugs) and addictive behaviours (gambling addiction, sex addiction, internet addiction, etc.).
- Describe the impact of social determinants (education, employment, housing, social cohesion...) on the health of immigrant people.
- Understand and analyse traumatic experiences and post-migratory life difficulties and gender determinants with respect to the health of migrant women.
- Describe all aspects that promote well-being for the elderly (health healthcare and social features).
- Use the data from the “PASSI d’Argento” database to identify areas of concerns, to track trends of risk factors and suggest evidence-based interventions to maintain wellbeing and independence.

Learning assessment procedures
