Academic calendar
The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Public holidays and University closures are also indicated. The academic year normally begins on 1 October each year and ends on 30 September of the following year.

Introduction to Geography and History Study (2015/2016)

Module: INTRODUZIONE ALLO STUDIO DELLA STORIA (I)

The teaching is preparatory to the investigation of history in different epochs, through an introduction to the processes of construction of the historical knowledge and its different phases: subjectivity of knowledge, research, treatment of the informations, reliability of sources, the building process of the text.
Module: INTRODUZIONE ALLO STUDIO DELLA GEOGRAFIA (I)

Students should have already acquired from high school, familiarity with the following topics: The Earth as a planet (shape, size and movement). The representation of the surface of the earth (Maps, scale reduction, projections, cartographic products). The atmosphere (composition, division, characteristics) and climate and its elements (solar radiation and temperature, pressure and atmospheric circulation, humidity and precipitation), variations (factors) and classification of climates. The hydrosphere (seas and oceans, movement of the seas, inland waters). The lithosphere (distribution of land masses and oceans, the theory of plate tectonics, large topographic structures, volcanoes and earthquakes.) These basic skills are part of the study syllabus, addressed at achieving an adequate preparation for the education field (teaching).

Prerequisites: a basic knowledge of history in general.
Contents: a methodological introduction to the study of history. Examination of the opportunities and of the problems given by a plurality of sources. The mith of Rome and of the Modern nations. An introduction to global history.

To review the "prerequisites" it is recommended, in addition to consulting an Atlas, a good manual on Earth Sciences. LUPIA PALMIERI E., Il globo terrestre e la sua evoluzione, Bologna, Zanichelli, 2000 is suggested to anyone who has not yet studied the basic elements of physical geography.

Oral exam based on the discussion of the texts in the program (included the one chosen by students).

Exam : Oral exam. For students who attend lessons there will be a written learning process check test on the basic knowledge of physical geography and cartography.
