Program
Advanced module: Living every day in the old regime In the second module we will try to reason, starting from some case studies, on the real life conditions, even daily, of men and women of the old regime, addressing in particular topics such as: of material civilization: to live, eat, dress; family, marriage and sexuality; sensitivity of the old regime: mentality, feelings, affections, gestures and customs; religiosity; conflicts and justice; social hierarchies: distinctions, privileges and social mobility; the condition of servants; poverty and welfare, crime and social control; printing, publishing, censorship, books and reading.
Bibliography
Didactic methods
By tackling a particular theme of a monographic nature, students will have to be able to overcome the simplifications of manuals (producers of unwitting stereotypes) and historiographical clichés, verifying the most well-known interpretative schemes on the sources and texts. The course will take place in presence and all materials (general history lessons, monographic lessons, texts and documents) will be uploaded to the Moodle platform. The course will be accompanied by any seminar meetings
Learning assessment procedures
In order to pass the second part of the exam, it is required to deepen a research path relating to a theme of history of the modern age by reading a historiographical text of which it will be necessary to know not only the content, but the sources starting from which it was written, the cultural and political context in which it was conceived, recognizing the author as a historian with a personal methodology and consequently his own interpretative key to historical events.
Evaluation criteria
Oral examination. The second part of the exam focuses on the monographic part and on in-depth readings and aims to ascertain the student's ability to critically read a book not limiting himself to the summary, but identifying its historiographical implications (who is the author, what background does he come from, on which sources his research is based, such as his interpretative theses). The oral exam is also aimed at verifying. - The property of language - The analytical and argumentative skills - The ability to make connections between different topics - The ability to formulate new problems starting from the readings carried out
