Learning outcomes

The course will provide students with an historical-theoretical introduction to postcolonial literature and studies and will concern a critical reading of novels and short stories from Australia, the Caribbean, and Africa. It will focus on the consequences of colonial invasion and dominance, and on the process of construction of new postcolonial identities by engaging with the issues of “diaspora”, “cultural heritage”, “nation”, “Orientalism”, “multiculturalism”, “creolization”.

Examination Methods

Oral assessment in English at the end of the course. Students will be tested on the contents of the novels and will be expected to critically discuss and analyze the main issues presented in the texts.
