“Re-writing the discovery and the conquest in the XXth century Hispanic-American narratives”
The first part of the course aims to offer a general view of the relations between history and literature in the Hispanic-American context, from the early moments of the discovery and the conquest until the XXth century. This section will specifically address the XXth century Hispanic-American novels and short stories, by underling the relations they maintain with the historical and chronicle discourses of the colonial age. The topic will be deepened by the reading and the critical analysis of Alejo Carpentier’s novel El arpa y la sombra.
