Program

The contemporary Portuguese language will be analyzed and the main stages of its historical evolution will be reconstructed. The main characteristics of regional and urban linguistic variations in Brazil will be outlined.
In addition, an indispensable description of the structures of the Portuguese language (phonology, morphology, lexicon, syntax) will be provided, with some in-depth analyzes dedicated to individual aspects of a particularly significant structural nature present in the Brazilian variety.
During the entire course, reading and listening activities will be carried out in order to stimulate the students' communication skills. Linguistic-theoretical exercises relating to the topics covered in the classroom will also be proposed through a handout prepared by the teacher.
Additional bibliographic materials will be provided to students during the course.
As regards the teaching methods, frontal and participatory lessons are foreseen which will be integrated by language exercises.

Examination Methods

The final exam will take place in two distinct moments and consists of a written grammar test,
comprehension and production, and an oral interview, to be held with the teacher in charge of the course.

To access the oral exam it is necessary to have obtained a positive result in the written exam.
