The contemporary Portuguese language will be analyzed and the main stages of its historical evolution will be reconstructed. The main characteristics of regional and urban linguistic variations in Brazil will be outlined.
In addition, an indispensable description of the structures of the Portuguese language (phonology, morphology, lexicon, syntax) will be provided, with some in-depth analyzes dedicated to individual aspects of a particularly significant structural nature present in the Brazilian variety.
During the entire course, reading and listening activities will be carried out in order to stimulate the students' communication skills. Linguistic-theoretical exercises relating to the topics covered in the classroom will also be proposed through a handout prepared by the teacher.
