Academic calendar
The academic calendar shows the deadlines and scheduled events that are relevant to students, teaching and technical-administrative staff of the University. Public holidays and University closures are also indicated. The academic year normally begins on 1 October each year and ends on 30 September of the following year.

Learning outcomes
The teaching aims to provide the methods and skills for evidence based practice through the development of the following abilities: to transform a clinical issue into one or more research questions that may be searched in the literature, to enhance decision making skills in order to be able to choose interventions according to the appropriate clinical guidelines, patient preferences, clinical condition and context. GUIDELINES AND SAFETY OF CARE (MODULO LINEE GUIDA E SICUREZZA DELLE CURE). Learning outcomes: students at the end of the course will acquire the skills to critically evaluate the validity and applicability of nursing and midwifery's guidelines. They will also be able to transfer research results into the daily clinical practice. EFFICACY BASED NURSING CARE (MODULO ASSISTENZA INFERMIERISTICA BASATA SU PROVE DI EFFICACIA) Learning outcomes: Students will understand the history of the evidence-based pratice model and its implications for the nursing and midwifery decision making process; they will be able to transform a clinical issue into one or more research questions that may be searched in the scientific literature; they will be able to find and consult the main scientific databases, to apply a search strategy for the relevant bibliography, to critically evaluate quality and applicability of secondary sources like systematic reviews, Critical Appraisal Topics, healh technology assessment; to deepen their knowledge and apply strategies to promote evidence based practice in nursing and midwifery care. TOOLS FOR DATABASE MANAGEMENT IN RESEARCH CONTEXTS (MODULO STRUMENTI PER LA GESTIONE DI DATABASE IN AMBITO DI RICERCA) Learning outcomes: To provide the main tools regarding data collection and processing in the context of design and implementation of clinical research studies. To acquire the skills to manage and process clinical research data using advanced spreadsheet functions (with particular focus on MS Excel).

Overview of the guideline development process from question formulation to recommendation development.
Methods to facilitate the introduction of guidelines in practice: dissemination and implementation
Evidence that guideline based care can change clinical practice and patient outcomes
Using guidelines for making decisions
Definition of data, information, knowledge. Processing of data to obtain information. Application programs for data collection, management, processing and representation.
Spreadsheets: Excel and Open Source suites (Libre Office, Open Office). Data entry, mathematical, logical, text manipulation functions, the main statistical functions with examples of use. The representation of data in graphs. Tutorial with Excel / Libre Office Spreadsheet.
The relational databases (outline): structure, conceptual and physical schemes, the SQL language for managing DBs, examples with an individual productivity database (MS Access or Libre Office Base).
Examination Methods
The objective of this exam is to evaluate the knowledge acquired by the student and particularly his/her ability to apply it in a proficient way.
The exam shall include different levels:
- written examination with multiple choice and open questions to assess students' understanding of the EBP and research concepts covered in the course and their ability to apply critical appraisal skills to the assessment and interpretation of clinical evidence
-oral examination with questions on the theory explained in class and requests of practical use of the applications seen in class.
The grade is awarded on a scale from one to thirty. The exam is passed with a grade greater than or equal to 18/30, the maximum attainable grade is 30/30.
The attribution of honours will be considered in case the student demonstrates high levels of critical thinking and argumentative ability.
