Didactic methods
The course is structured in theoretical-practical lectures (20 h) carried out in the computer lab on the use of Microsoft Excel spreadsheet for the analysis of biomedical data and on the retrieval of bibliographic information using PubMed. Attendance of the course is mandatory. The teaching material is made available to students on the e-learning web page of the course (Moodle platform). Students in isolation and/or quarantine for COVID-19 will be allowed access to lectures via ZOOM (in synchronous mode), after sending the lecturer by e-mail the form to self-certify their positivity.
Learning assessment procedures
The objective of the test is to verify the knowledge of the topics covered, the ability to solve a biomedical problem by analyzing health data using Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and to find bibliographic information using PubMed. The final exam consists of a written test with multiple choice and open-ended questions and a practical computer exercise carried out in the computer lab. At the beginning of the test, students receive a spreadsheet with a dataset to perform the data analysis. Some questions of the written test guide students in analyzing a health dataset and in bibliographic research. Each question is assigned a predefined score. The duration of the exam is 70 minutes.
Evaluation criteria
Students have to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the topics covered in class and the ability to find and correctly report citations and bibliographic information in the written test. In addition, they have to demonstrate the ability to analyse biomedical data using the spreadsheet, which they will deliver at the end of the exam. The final evaluation is expressed in 30ths.
