Learning objectives

The aim of this course is to give the students the basic knowledge of the processes that lead to the resolution of a three-dimensional structure of biological macromolecules through X-ray crystallography.

Prerequisites and basic notions

No prior knowledge is required.
A knowledge on Protein Chemistry is suggested.

Program

The course will cover the most common methods of processing x-ray diffraction data and the resolution of the three-dimensional structure of a protein by molecular replacement, through the most widely used software in the international crystallographic community, up to the evaluation of the quality of the atomic model obtained. The teachers will guide the participants through this path with practical examples in real-time and will stimulate the discussion on the topics of interest by presenting real problems to which a solution can be found.

Didactic methods

Teachers will use frontal lessons and they will stimulate the interaction with students. Didactic material useful to the course will be uploaded on the Moodle page of the course in pdf format.
The possibility of following the lessons in streaming will be granted only to those students with severe disabilities and absolutely unable to attend the classroom, through prior agreement with the teacher.

Learning assessment procedures

The exam is not scheduled.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE
