Program

Through a journey in the periodic Table of the Elements, the goal of the seminar is the claim of the importance of inorganic chemistry in regulating vital functions in the human body as well as in the pharmaceutical field. The first part introduces basic aspects of bio-inorganic chemistry, followed by some examples of endogenous metal ions with a key role from the physiological point of view. The second part deals with some clinically-established inorganic drugs exploited as an example of translational process from the bench side to the clinics. In the last part the seminar also addresses the issue of orphan drugs and diseases with a special insight into oncology.
