Learning objectives

The aim of the course is to introduce the principles of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy for the structural analysis of small molecules and biological macromolecules and for the study of biomolecular interactions. In the initial part of the course the preliminary knowledge of the physical principles on which magnetic resonance is based is provided with particular attention to samples in solution. The course covers also the basic principles and application of complex two and three-dimensional NMR experiments and the isotope labeling schemes necessary for the study of proteins and their functional interactions. In addition, basic knowledge on the techniques for spectra analysis are given to study the interactions at atomic levels between various partners such as biological macromolecules and small molecules or nanoparticles.
