Learning objectives

The seminar course aims to provide the student with some knowledge regarding the preparation and application of inorganic-based luminescent nanomaterials for biomedical applications, in particular for biomedical diagnostics and for possible therapeutic applications (theranostics). Special attention will be paid to nanomaterials for modern diagnostics, such as optical imaging or MRI. Furthermore, the development of nanoscale materials that can be activated using radiation in the optical region to produce reactive oxygen species (ROS) or heat will be described. Wet preparation methods will be described with particular attention to green chemistry aspects. Fluoride-based nanomaterials functionalized with lanthanide ions will be considered.

Prerequisites and basic notions

Basics of Chemistry and Materials Science.

Program

Synthesis of fluoride-based nanoparticles with microwave-assisted solvothermal method. Nanomaterials based on fluorides activated with luminescent lanthanide ions and their use for diagnostics and curative treatments in nanomedicine (theranostics).
