Learning outcomes
The course aims to convey the main competences of the philological method which constitute the basis for the edition of a text in digital format. The course also aims to provide students with the specific knowledge and methodologies to prepare a digital edition. At the end of the course the student will be able to recognize the main editorial issues concerning the publication of a text and to identify the most suitable editing methods and softwares in view of its digital edition.

Philology, literature, technology: a historical look;
Duration and accessibility of information;
Free-Open software;
The digitization of texts;
The coding of the texts;
Between philology and linguistics: computational philology;
The shells and UNIX;
Latex and Bibtex.
Some digital critical editions will be analyzed in the context of the Italian literary tradition.

Oral exam. Attending and non-attending students will bring the same program, which consists of the manual by G. Milanese integrated with other topics we will talk about in class (the ppt slides will be provided in pdf on the Moodle page of the course).
