Learning objectives
The course aims to introduce students to concepts, methods and languages for the management of data and information, using in particular the methods for the organization, integration, management and retrieval of resources, enabled by Semantic Web technologies. At end of the course the students: - will know the basic principles of database and knowledge base design; - will be able to create, populate, and query databases and knowledge bases; - will know the basic concepts of the Semantic Web, the technologies and models for the representation of metadata and ontologies, and the methods for integrating and re-using different resources according to the Linked Data approach.
Prerequisites and basic notions
Previous attendance of the first year course on "introduction to DH" and the second year course on "Programming Languages for the Humanities".

Classroom lectures with practical hands-on session with the computer.
Methods of teaching support:
Materials and resources will be given out during the course to support the lessons, and will be uploaded on the course's Moodle page. The lecturer is available during his office hours (also online via Zoom).
Learning assessment procedures
Attendance and student contribution to class is strongly encouraged.
There is no difference in the program, materials and examination between attending and non-attending students.
The exam consists in preparing an individual project of design and implementation of a database, and its discussion with the teacher.
