Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to provide a critical-methodological introduction to the study of English literature and culture during the 18th century.

Program

“Il romanzo gotico tra testo e film”
Il romanzo gotico è un genere particolarmente rivelatore delle profonde trasformazioni del contesto e del sistema culturale che si verificano negli ultimi decenni del Settecento. Ricollegandosi alla rivalutazione progressiva del sentimento e dell’emozione, all’attrazione per il mistero e alla liberazione della fantasia, presenti, con progressiva intensificazione, in tutta la cultura settecentesca, offre occasione per un analisi dell’orizzonte speculativo e scientifico tipicamente settecentesco. Verranno inoltre analizzate le trasposizioni cinematografiche di alcuni dei romanzi presi in considerazione.
