Program

Contenuto del corso:
Emotions in contemporary philosophy
The course will consider some philosophical analyzes of emotions in the context of contemporary philosophy: compared to the modern concept, especially Descartes and Kant, which considers emotions as a disturbing factor to the correct use of reason, it is stated in the contemporary era, especially within the current phenomenological, the idea that emotions have an intentional orientation and cognitive value.
Reference will be made first to the analysis of Martha Nussbaum, according to which emotions - pain, fear, shame, love, compassion - pervade the thinking and are the focus not only of individual life, but also the social one. So, focusing on the phenomenological perspective, we will examine the concept of empathy in Edith Stein and the sympathy in Max Scheler, and finally the concept of love and envy in Maria Zambrano.
