Learning objectives

The laboratory aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to carry out articulated and interdisciplinary projects using the fundamental methodologies and technologies in Digital Humanities. At the end of the laboratory the students: - will be able to combine the previously acquired skills of programming, data and information management, and web development to autonomously implement complex Digital Humanities projects; - will know and will be able to apply a well-founded methodology for the planning and development of a Digital Humanities software project.

Prerequisites and basic notions

Attendance of INF/01 courses and labs from previous years.

Program

The laboratory is organized in three modules of 12 hours each, held by three different teachers, and each focused on a specific topic:
- module 1: Text classification: an Artificial Intelligence task (prof. Rospocher)
- module 2: Data retrieval and manipulation (prof. Grossi)
- module 3: Information retrieval algorithms (prof. Lissandrini)

Didactic methods

IT classroom lectures with practical hands-on session with the computer. It is advisable to follow the lessons regularly and do the assigned exercises.
Pointers to relevant reference materials (e.g., books, articles) will be provided during the lectures.
Methods of teaching support: materials and resources will be given out during the course to support the lessons, and will be uploaded on the course's Moodle page. The lecturers are available during their office hours (also online via Zoom).

Learning assessment procedures

Active attendance of the laboratory is strongly recommended. The exam will consist in the realization of a project and related discussion with the teacher. The discussion will verify the skills acquired in the three modules of the laboratory.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE
