Learning objectives
The course aims at providing general knowledge on the history of the languages and literary civilisation of the Slavic peoples in order to facilitate the learning of various Slavic languages and literatures. By the end of the course, students will: 1) know the basics of the history and culture of Slavic peoples and the evolution of the Slavic languages; 2) know how to apply basic philological and linguistic knowledge; 3) develop independent judgments on the main topics of the course and express them in a coherent and correct way.
Prerequisites and basic notions
Basic knowledge of writing standard and morphology of the Russian language (level A2).
Program
The programme will include the following themes:
1. historical survey (from ancient times to the modern era)
2. classification of Slavic languages
3. diachronic development
4. the issue of the Russian literary language
5. textual criticism and scholarly editions
6. textual criticism
Erasmus students and non-attending students are required to contact the teacher in order to receive instructions as regards the reference books.
Bibliography
Didactic methods
Frontal lessons; e-learning; reading, commenting and analysis of texts in the language (which will be uploaded to the moodle page); exercises with seminar-type discussion.
Non-attending students are invited to contact the teacher to make arrangements on the programme.
In the case of missed lessons, students will be able to use the materials uploaded on the moodle page, and to ask the teacher for an update during the office hours.
Learning assessment procedures
Oral conversation. Questions will cover concepts and topics analyzed during the classes, including the necessary vocabulary for the meta-linguistic discourse. Students will be also asked to analyze the texts proposed during the classes.
Evaluation criteria
- content accuracy and completeness in terms of contents
- adequate analysis abilities
- clarity in the exposition, argumentative ability
- mastery of the subject-specific vocabulary.
Criteria for the composition of the final grade
The final grade is out of 30.
It will consist of the average between open questions and textual analysis.
