Learning objectives
The course aims to convey the main competences of the philological method in order to publish a text. To acquire these philological competences, specific editorial cases concerning ancient and modern texts will be addressed. These cases will be offered as exemplary with respect to the problems of the edition of a text. At the end of the course the student will be able to recognize the main editorial issues concerning the publication of a text and to identify the most congenial editing methods in relation to the different types of texts taken into consideration.
Prerequisites and basic notions
Basic knowledge of the history of Italian literature
Program
The course, in the first part, will illustrate the discipline and will be based on the following book:
P. Stoppelli, 'Filologia della letteratura italiana', Roma 2019.
In the second part, pieces will be read from two classics of italian literature: P. Bembo; B. Castiglione.
Reading is also required of one of the volumes here:
1) P. Italia-G. Raboni, ‘Che cos’è la filologia d’autore’, Roma 2019;
2) L. D. Reynolds-N. G. Wilson, ‘Copisti e filologi. La tradizione dei classici dall’antichità ai tempi moderni’. Traduzione di M. Ferrari. Con una premessa di G. Billanovich, Padova-Roma 2016.
