Learning outcomes

Philosophy of Language
The course aims at providing examples of the contribution modern and contemporary philosophy has made to the understanding of the functioning of language, and the relation between language, material reality and social reality.
At the end of the course, students:
KNOWLEDGE:
- will possess a wider knowledge of the main conceptual lines of Western philosophical tradition;
ABILITIES:
- will be able to comprehend philosophical texts, to set them in their proper critical context, and to interpret them;
- will use a correct philosophical terminology;
- will be able to autonomously form judgements on the subjects dealt with in the course;
- will develop the capacity to communicate philosophical contents to specialists and non-specialists alike;
- will be capable to continue their studies at a MA level.

Examination Methods

L’accertamento dei risultati di apprendimento prevede per tutti gli studenti, frequentanti e non frequentanti, il superamento di una prova orale, che verterà sugli argomenti più specifici del programma. La valutazione finale è espressa in trentesimi.
Per superare l’esame gli studenti dovranno dimostrare di:
1) possedere una approfondita conoscenza delle principali tematiche specifiche elaborate durante il corso;
2) saper sviluppare una riflessione critica, espressa in linguaggio pertinente e accurato, circa le implicazioni teoretiche di tali tematiche. L’accertamento dei risultati di apprendimento prevede il superamento di una prova orale volta a verificare il livello di conoscenza dei testi in programma.
In alternativa, è possibile concepire l’esame orale come una discussione di una tesina scritta. In tal caso la tesina, di circa 20.000 battute, va concordata con il docente e consegnata almeno 7 giorni prima della discussione. Il file, in formato Word, dovrà essere denominato con il proprio COGNOME e NOME. La tesina va pensata come una schedatura ragionata delle parti dei testi in programma che hanno suscitato maggiore interesse. La parte conclusiva della tesina va dedicata a una breve riflessione personale di un paio di cartelle.
