Period

Sem. 2B dal Apr 14, 2021 al May 29, 2021.

Learning outcomes

Resting on the thin edge dividing two different styles of investigation, the workshop on ethics and psychoanalysis aims to approach ethic’s main topics from the perspective of psychoanalysis and its contribution to provide a different reading to the main issues of the philosophical tradition. In particular, the workshop will provide an insight of the philosophical meaning of Freud’s discovery of the powerlessness of the subject. What does ethics become, in such perspective? How may philosophy think (or have thought) something corresponding to that, and may be called to develop that approach? The workshop will collectively analyze some of the main texts that have pioneered these philosophical discussions, in order that students may be capable to master their arguments and create their personal approach to them in a critical and autonomous way.

Program

The workshop will address the idea of ethics in the light of the contribution of psychoanalysis, which is in many ways questioning the philosophical tradition, or rediscovering something philosophical tradition already formulated in its own terms. We will address in particular the fundamental discovery psychoanalysis always claimed: the subject would not be “master in its own house”. What could ethics become, in the light of this hypothesis?

Examination Methods

Students will receive frontal lessons but will also be invited to discuss and actively contribute to the collective examination of texts and the collective construction of knowledge concerning the main issues of the workshop. The active participation by students substitutes the final exam.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE
