Learning objectives

The course is divided into three modules: Audiology, Otorhinolaryngology, Glottology and Linguistics
KNOWING AND REMEMBERING
- the fundamental elements of communication
- verbal and non-verbal language
- the basic concepts of linguistics, phonetics and phonology
- graphemes, phonemes and their distinctive features
- definition and anatomo-physiological elements of voice-word-language
- elements of acoustic physics and acoustic analysis of verbal language
- strumental voice assessment
UNDERSTANDING AND REMEMBERING
- the clinical elements of speech-language pathologies such as dysphonia or voice disorders, dyslalia, dysarthria or speech disorders, dysphagia or swallowing disorders, communication disorders caused by hearing loss
- the basic principles of speech therapy rehabilitation after cochlear implant or wearing hearing aid
- diseases of the pontocerebellar angle and oncological conditions of the outer, middle and inner ear
- rhinosinus disorders leading to hearing loss
- oropharyngeal conditions leading to hearing loss
- Ménière's Disease, vestibular loss, bilateral vestibulopathy, third window disorders, vertebro-basilar insufficiency, oculovestibular and brachio-oto-renal syndromes
- presbyacusis, acute and chronic acoustic trauma, otosclerosis
- prelinguistic hypoacusis and underlying medical conditions

Examination Methods

All the three modules will be assessed simultaneously as a semi-structured written examination (open-ended questions with some requiring short answers) to be completed in 60 minutes. Grading in thirtieths. It is not possible to take the examination as an in itinere test
