Learning objectives
The course consists of two modules: Audiology, Electrical and Electronic Measurements, Materials Science and Technology
KNOW AND REMEMBER:
- the principles of acoustic prosthesisation, the evolution of technology and the approach to acoustic prosthesisation, the evolution of application purposes, the new L.E.A.
- importance and consequences of the induced variation in the resonance of the external auditory canal in hearing prostheses.
- hearing aid audiometry in HL / SPL; HL standardisation with ISO 389
- the hearing aid: types of hearing aids, ISO classification, differentiation between group 1 and group 2 - the price nomenclature
- the hearing aid: block diagram; technical characteristics and functionality of microphones and receivers and their different uses; analogue/digital amplifiers with their definition and classification
UNDERSTAND AND KNOW:
- the amplification process: spectrum of the verbal message, loudness, auditory dynamic range, gain, bandwidth; linear / non-linear amplification, compression and compression ratio; prescriptive rationale.
- digital technology: technical basis and practical aspects of a digital hearing aid; sampling; digital noise reduction; acoustic feedback control
- basic principles and measurement standards of electroacoustic measurements
- principles of functioning, management and adjustment of cochlear implants and implanted hearing devices
AUTONOMY OF OPINION
- in being able to interpret the morpho-functional abnormalities of the body that are found in different hearing diseases
- in assessing the benefit with a hearing aid and the conditions under which it is necessary to upgrade with a cochlear implant
- in the management of the cochlear implant patient and his or her problems related to the device and its possible effects on health status
- designing an customised rehabilitation programme
Examination Methods
All modules will be assessed simultaneously with a semi-structured written examination to be taken in 60 minutes and consisting of multiple-choice and open-ended questions. Subsequently, an oral examination will take place as a traditional examination
Evaluation criteria
Clear and fluent exposition of complex topics with specific and technical terminology. Good critical capacity for examples applied to technical-clinical practice and drafting of high-tech concepts based not only on lecture material but also on personal research.
