Learning objectives

UNDERSTAND AND KNOWING
- the different types of voluntary and involuntary eye movements
- nystagmus and its characteristics, hippus and atypical nystagmous
KNOWING AND REMEMBERING
- the equipment used for a complete otoneurological examination (electronstagmography, videonystagmograph, otocalorimeter, video Head Impulse Test, static and dynamic stabilometry)
BEING ABLE TO RECOGNISE
- the plane, direction, frequency, amplitude and speed of nystagmus using both videonystagmoscopic and electro or videonystagmographic assessment
- the main components and characteristics of the VEMPS study with evaluation of the saccular and utricular channels, the parameters of the caloric test and VHIT
- the stabilometric examination parameters and the different graphic and absolute parameters
UNDERSTAND AND ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE OF
- the appropriate tools for obtaining a targeted anamnesis
- subjective and objective diagnostic methods useful for identifying vestibular and otoneurological problems
- an analysis of hearing impairment also in a diagnostic-differential perspective
- use the currently validated psychometric instruments for the assessment of dizziness and its effects on quality of life and psychological distress
KNOWING HOW TO PERFORM:
- videonystagmographic examination with detection of eye movements
- videonystagmographic examination with detection of spontaneous, positional and cervical nystagmus
- rotoacceleratory tests
- Head Shaking Test, Skull Vibration Induced Nystagmus, tricanalar clinical Head Impulse Test and video Head Impulse Test using HIMP and SHIMP protocol in addition to functional HIT
- static posturographic testing in basic condition, with foam, occlusal disengagement, head retroflexion
- dynamic posturographic examination
KNOWING HOW TO COMMUNICATE
- clearly and unambiguously with specialist and non-specialist interlocutors;
- listen carefully in order to understand and synthesise relevant information on all issues, understanding their content;
- with the person with imbalance problems in order to take care of him/her and his/her family by applying the fundamentals of relational dynamics
