Learning objectives
UNDERSTANDING AND KNOWING:
- composition and functioning of airborne and bone-borne conduction hearing aids
- composition and function of implantable hearing devices
- composition and function of cochlear implants, stimulation strategies, spectral envelope and fine structure of sound
- evaluative prosthetic function tests, selection tests, adjustment tests and fitting of hearing aids
- general rehabilitation methods and in particular hearing aids, both with airborne and bone-borne conduction devices
- methods for the activation, adjustment and monitoring of implantable devices
- the choice of the correct hearing aid, earmold type, material and shape
- the processes of correct hearing aid fitting
- tools and methodologies for verifying the quality of the prosthetic intervention
- indications, relative and absolute contraindications for hearing prostheses
- consequences and possible complications secondary to the use of hearing aids
- principles and the technological and methodological process underlying medical devices used in the hearing field
Examination Methods
Written examination as a low-structured test (open questions). 60 minutes available. Grading in thirtieths without merit. Those who achieve a mark of at least 24/30 have the chance to access an oral examination that will be conducted as a traditional examination. In this case, the points required for cum laude may be added to the written exam's score.
Evaluation criteria
Simple and linear treatment of complex topics, using specialist terminology. Ability to summarise by conveying the key concepts of the topics covered. Treatment of high-tech concepts based not only on lecture material but also on personal research
