Learning objectives

The aims of this course are to enable students to develop and consolidate the understanding of the syntactic and lexical-semantic aspects of contemporary English. C1 level (listening comprehension and reading comprehension) is a prerequisite for the course.

Prerequisites and basic notions

Prerequisites - In order to sign up for the exam, students must have passed:
- English C1 computer-based test at the Uni Language Center CLA (minimum score: 60/100, validity one year)*
- English Language 1
- English Literature and Culture 1
*This also applies to ERASMUS students (alternatively, international certificates must be approved by the CLA).

The contents of the exam are the same for attending and non-attending students.

Guidelines and teaching materials will be uploaded on the Moodle platform.
For non-attending students it is important to study the content of the syllabus on the books listed in the bibliography including dedicated to exercises (with solutions).

Learning assessment procedures

Written exam (60 minutes):
The final exam is a written test with open and closed questions on the topics discussed during the course.

Students with disabilities or specific learning disorders (SLD), who intend to request the adaptation of the exam, must follow the instructions given HERE

Evaluation criteria

The written test includes multiple choice questions and open-ended questions focusing on the topics covered during the course. Multiple choice questions are designed to assess students’ theoretical knowledge; open-ended questions evaluate students’ ability to apply their knowledge to text analysis.

Criteria for the composition of the final grade

The final grade of the exam is the average of the grade of the written exam and the grade obtained in the CLA computer-based test. The grade from the computer-based test is converted into /30 according to the CLA conversion table. Students who have obtained external language certificates must obtain an equivalence certificate from the CLA before the date of the exam.
